Public Health: Obesity

The art and science dealing with the protection and improvement of community health, prolonging life and promoting health through organized efforts, as opposed to the medical science of preventing disease, or the study of disease in an individual body.

According to recent data from the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS), approximately one in five children in the US are now overweight. The number of overweight children has doubled in the past two decades, leading to a generation at risk for cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and other serious health problems. Preventing obesity in our children is one of the most important public health issues facing the nation today.
