How long can I check out a journal or magazine? 7 days. Take issue wanted to the Service Desk.

When print magazines are about 6 months old, they are bound into volumes and sent to the Colby Libraries Annex. Bates and Bowdoin also have issues of print magazines bound into volumes.
These all can be checked out.
To request them, search for a magazine title as instructed in the digital access box in this guide using either the "Journals & Articles" search box on the library website home page or CBBcat.
1. If searching "Journals & Articles" on Colby home page, you'll be taken to the journal record. Click on Colby Libraries Print Holdings to get to the CBBcat record.
2. If using CBBcat (1st drop-down Title, 2nd drop-down Journal), identify which search result is the print copy record.
Once in the CBBcat record for the print volumes, you will see what options are available. Scroll down past "CBB Request" to make sure that the year/issue(s) you want are available. (You may have to click on "View Additional Copies" to see the complete list.) To order, click on CBB Request. After entering your Colby ID card information, you will be able to choose the volume you want.
The volume will be sent to the Miller Service Desk and you'll get an email when it's available for you to pick up.
1. How do I see if Colby subscribes to a specific literary magazine?
a. Search a publication name in CBBcat, changing the first drop down menu to "Title" and the second to "Journal."

b. Search a publication name using the "Journal & Articles" tab on the Colby Libraries website.
Look for the desired online journal in the results. Click to go to the journal record. Databases indexing the journal are listed. Choose by date range and interface preference.
2. What content is included?

Most databases only provide articles or creative writing from a journal. Images may or may not be included. Example: The Kenyon Review
3. Can I be informed with a new issue is published?
Many databases offer a journal alert feature. An email with links is sent when a new issue is published. Look for an alert icon.
