Service Desk Manual: VPN and how to access journals from off campus

How do I access journals from off campus?

Instructions for VPN (on the ITS site)

http://www.colby.edu/its/virtual-private-network-vpn/

this is the best access for off campus. Once you authenticate to connect to VPN, it thinks you are on campus so access becomes seamless. You can search for articles, use databases like Scopus, etc.

How to obtain articles we subscribe to. I know this isn't the most obvious, but it's fool proof. (If there is a bad link going this way, then it needs to be reported to <support@colby.libanswers.com>

  1. If you are in MyColby, go to the Libraries tab.
  2. Go to the Science library home page - (or Miller) below the ship
  3. On the left side of the blue box, select Journals and Articles
  4. Type in the title of the Journal
  5. You'll then get a listing of options for that title, depending on the date span.
  6. If you don't see your journal or your year, you can try Google Scholar in the event it's an open access article, otherwise it will need to be requested on Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
