Global Health: Research Resources

GS 255 Critical Perspectives on Health, Care and Policy (El-Shaarawi)

SCHOLARLY ARTICLES

Peer-Reviewed Journal: Lancet Global Health, November 2016 Issue

Look for a check box in the search results of the following databases to limit your results to Peer-Reviewed or Scholarly/Academic journals. Peer-Reviewed journals are vetted by faculty in the subject area, and are thus particularly important in academic research.

The above databases can also be used to find non-scholarly material: magazines, newspapers, book reviews, etc. Look for document type designations.

SEARCH TIPS

Quotations glue together a phrase.

“life expectancy”

An asterisk stands in for different endings.

infectio* = infectious, infection, infections

Using AND between terms narrows a search. Results must include both terms.

“preventive care” AND children*

Using OR between words widens a search. Results can include either term.

(HIV OR AIDS) Note that an OR phrase should be in parentheses.

Keep gathering more search terms as you look at materials.

Use subject headings to focus your search on concepts.

Examine citations in references & bibliographies to find more sources.
