Contemporary Art: Start

Background

Research Strategies

  • CBBcat libraries' catalog.
    • Search by keyword for a artist name (in quotes) or term used in contemporary art.
    • Use a library subject heading ► for guided access books on themes and movements in contemporary art.
  • ONE SEARCH
    • Find articles, books, streaming media, ebooks, and a wide range of electronic and print content from the library.
  • ART DATABASES
    • Find articles on contemporary art and artists in art journals and key newspapers. Find exhibition reviews and interviews with artists (i.e. primary sources) in scholarly journals, art magazines, and newspapers.
  • WORLDCAT
    • Access books, etc, from libraries throughout the U.S. Search by artist or keyword to find more resources on emerging or contemporary artists, and request via interlibrary loan.
  • PRIMARY SOURCES
    • Artists' statements are often found in recent exhibition catalogs, on artist websites, and in interviews in magazines and newspapers and on contemporary art blogs. See also the Skowhegan Lecture Archive at Colby College, an audio archive of contemporary artist lectures from the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.
