CAPS Guide to Library Resources: Get Started

What do you need from the Colby Libraries for researching a topic?

Find Books

There are 3 libraries at Colby:

  1. Science Library
  2. Bixler Art & Music Library
  3. Miller Library - all other subjects in the humanities and social sciences

The call number will reflect in which library a book can be found:

Science Library:

Art & Music Library:

Miller Library (no designation):

If you're used to the Dewey Decimal system, these call numbers will look different to you.

Library of Congress call numbers always start with a letter or pair of letters which denotes a specific subject classification, and books are arranged on the shelf alphabetically by these letters.

Please ask us for help if you cannot find what you're looking for.

Books from Bowdoin and Bates are also available for request through CBBcat.
